Competing side-by-side with the best New Zealand and international spirits brands, Barlovska Craft Liqueurs, a Lower Hutt husband-and-wife team won a gold medal for their Vanilla Bean Blackberry Liqueur.
Zuzanna Chmielewska-Barlow got the bug for making traditional liqueurs from her grandmother back in her home country of Poland. What started as a passion, turned into a serious business one and a half years ago with the release of a range of natural fruit and honey liqueurs in the Wellington region.
The enthusiasm and feedback from her customers at markets, expos, and through the online store gave Zuzanna the confidence to enter the competition with her favourite liqueur - Vanilla Bean Blackberry. NZ Spirits Awards is an international competition bringing the best New Zealand and international products to be judged in a blind tasting by a panel of highly regarded industry figures including mixologists, distillers, restaurateurs and writers. Achieving a gold medal amongst globally renowned brands is a great accomplishment for a small, local operation. This proves that sticking to the best quality ingredients and traditional methods pays off.
With the gold medal in their hands, the next step for Zuzanna and her husband Chris is to expand sales of their unique, all-natural liqueurs across stores nation-wide to give everyone in New Zealand a chance to try them.
